ART-FEST DÍÓNÝSÍA

From June 9 to 19, Iceland’s countryside will turn into a grand art-fest when a group of young artists from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts together with some friends will hit the road and drive crisscross the country and arrive in small towns and cillages for the purpose of organising various arty happenings.

Schedueled sites include Bolungarvík, Borgarfjörður eystri, Djúpavík, Grundarfjörður, Hafnir, Hofsós, Siglufjörður and Stöðvarfjörður.

The project is called DÍÓNÝSÍA and its curators explain that th reason for the events is that the artists want to break down boundaries between the city and the countryside as well as between different art genres, art students and others. The happenings will take place at some obscure places, wich are chosen for its beauty, history of value of interest in some way. The artists will collaborate wsith the local people to make some kind of an art project based on what the situation, the town and surroundings have to offer. The event will be documented and the curators have started conversing with other creative organizations about making a project related book, an exhibition and a video documentary.

The artworkers in Djúpavík are:
- Arna Sigrún (fashion designer)
- Gunnar Karel Másson (musican, composer)
- Sigriður Torfadóttir Tulinius (finearts student, photographer)
- Margit Sade (finearts student, entertainer)
